Google Profile

Google is now branching out from being the number one search engine in the world to offering a multitude of other services,  including maps, profiles, email accounts and video uploads. This is another great multi-level platform for promoting your  online presence with relatively little effort, and to begin, if you haven’t done it already, I’d advise creating a folder on your desktop and filling it with images, video files, press releases and text about your company- from the mission statement to the contact details.

Creating your own Business Profile

Then head to the Google homepage, where in the top right hand corner you’ll see a link to ‘sign-up’. Enter the relevant  information, either with your details as the manager of your business, or the business title in place of your own name. Verify your email address and a second window will open up allowing you to edit your profile further. As with all social networking sites and online profile, it is in your interests to add as much information in the form of text and images as you possibly can.

On your Google Profile, it will allow you to publish links to your website, so take advantage of this and link to your homepage, Site Map and Contact page, as well as each category page if your website is large enough. You can also link to your Twitter profile and company’s Facebook Page if you have created them already.

From the 'dashboard' of your Google account, you can also access other applications, under the ‘Try Something New’ header, click ‘More’, and you’ll be given a list of applications which you can add to your profile. Choose the ones most applicable to your business, such as:
    • News- search thousands of archived news stories from all over the world- particularly useful when researching your competitors and industry events;
    • Docs- create and share online documents and presentations;
    • Groups- implement mailing lists and discussion groups;
    • Blog Search- again, this is a very useful tool for researching various subjects and this tool will takes its results from many different blog sites.
