Fishing Fundraising Fun!

On a damp and overcast Saturday in April, thirty fishermen gathered at the Bradshaw Hall Fisheries to raise money in aid of the paediatric ward at the Royal Bolton hospital. BreakingSurface, an online fishing forum, organised the event with the aim of each competitor raising a minimum of thirty pounds in order to reach their goal target of £1000.

Representing Vizcom Design, of Bolton, was Daniel Robinson, a keen amateur fisherman, who has been ‘dipping in and out of the hobby since the age of seven’. He regularly goes coarse fishing whenever he can, both locally on and holiday; ‘My best catch was a 27.5lb carp - that was a battle getting it out of the water. I've also caught barracuda in Cuba and Tuna in Barbados - and as I was bringing it in a shark took it - so I just got two heads!’

With sponsorship raised from a variety of sources, including HSBC, Copy Print Services, Ross Bullock Business Consultancy, Four Seasons Training Consultancy, and Rigby Taylor Paints, Bolton, Daniel said he hoped to do well as this was only his second fishing match.

At the end of the day, the sun shone and Craig Roston managed to catch the most - netting around 80lbs of fish. Daniel laughed and said ‘I hooked an eight pounder in the first five minutes, but that was my only catch of the day! I’m a little disappointed but I’ve still a lot to learn!’

Nursing staff at Bolton Hospital had been kind enough to issue a list of toys and games that the children on the would appreciate, which were purchased with the proceeds of the day.
