Touch Graph
A graphic representation of where keywords sit on the internet
Touch Graph is a brilliant website, especially if you’re still relatively new to the world of the internet, as it’s very visual. Basically it provides a graphic representation of where keywords - such as the name of your company - sit on the internet showing which sites could possibly be related to yours. This is interesting as if you’ve been following our 101 Marketing Tips and have been creating online profiles for your company across various different platforms, including social networking sites, industry forums, auction sites, regional business directories and so on, you can see just how effective this has been so far.
Of course, some profiles that provide links back to your website might not be as effective as others, which could be for a variety of reasons - maybe they traffic heading there is not applicable to your target demographic; maybe it’s not being updated enough; maybe the site where this profile is itself is not attracting a lot of traffic; and so on. Either way, Touch Graph helps you do some housekeeping and see which profiles you’ve created are the most effective and helps you to decide which to concentrate on and which could be shut down.
See who else has linked with your website too
Another advantage gained with Touch Graph is that you can see who else has linked with your website too - perhaps you’re being discussed on a forum and you haven’t realised, or maybe you have a very satisfied customer discussing you on Facebook or Twitter? You can now go on to these sites, search for your company name and applicable keyboards and find out.
If your website is still in its infancy and exists only on paper, but you have a good idea of what keywords you will be using and of course, the title of your company, Touch Graph will allow you to see what is out there if your site was live - for example, if you have a business with a name unrelated to the purpose of the company - that is, it provides no clues as to its purpose, then you can see where that company could sit in relation to competitors and other websites in the industry.
Touch Graph provides links to the sites with your chosen keywords on, so you can see what context they’re being used in, and you can also filter the related sites, allowing you to pick and choose and plan your keyword usage accordingly. Remember - perfect planning prevents poor performance!
